Her husband hand-made each charm out of the victim’s SIM cards! They are symbols of intimacy — intimate lovers, intimate starvation, intimate murder. One for each of the victims. He then gave them to his wife. She’s oblivious to their meaning but cherishes them anyway.
Some would say that’s a shocking storyline. That may be so. In any case, they’re not just symbols but trophies.
Okay, it’s an outrageous plot inclusion, but that’s my writing style. The reward he gets from his trophies isn’t met until Samantha holds the finished charm bracelet and smiles at him. She must give him an obligatory peck on the cheek and say something like, “Thank you, dear. How sweet of you”, before he feels his special inner glow warm his evil soul.
Yes, they are more than mere trophies.
How each victim dies goes towards intimacy, too. It gives readers a super-sized clue about how much intimacy is poured over the story. There are no guns, poisons or knives. The eyes of my killer look directly at the victim’s eyes as the dying/killing process occurs. Every grunt, squirm, gasp, and gurgle is detailed. The reader is forced to experience the moment of expiration up close and personal. It’s insanely intimate.
A DNA investigation could help, but that’s too easy. Besides, not everyone’s DNA is on record.
The SIM cards add a kinky twist. They come from the victims’ phones. They were part of how each communicated with their killer. Our villain remodels each SIM into a unique charm, ensuring that no two are alike. Samantha becomes the bearer of them, and the killer’s secret seethes. Every private moment he had with them will become hers to have and to hold, forever and ever, until death do them part. It triples the intimate creepiness and allows that feeling to linger well beyond the book’s final page.
