Days without sex should count as special, too. It should be just another day in a normal week when love is reinforced simply by living and working together.
But for those suffering in sexless marriages, it’s hard to appreciate those kinds of days for what they are. Our emotions are muddied by frustration, and our perspectives get distorted. We can’t see straight to make good sense of anything. Appreciating the small things is difficult when bigger ones loom large.
Try as we may to find fairness and equity in our marriages, it’s almost impossible while thoughts go to the one thing we desperately need and want. I remember trying so hard to be fair and reasonable towards my spouse while harbouring deep anger and desperation about our ten-year sexless marriage.
The story below comes from that kind of ‘knowing’ how suffering feels. It’ll say much to listeners who, too, are going through the sexless marriage process.
Listen to the podcast track below and tell me you ‘get it’. Others won’t ‘get it’ and won’t dissect their thoughts and emotions to this degree because they don’t need to. They have a nice balance between sex and non-sex days. To set the scene, our protagonist describes a typical Sunday morning to his therapist, Tony Brindell. He struggles to keep optimism alive with his wife, Samantha, knowing inner conflict pulls the other way.
