Printed Books Still More Popular

Over the past two decades, the landscape of book consumption has undergone notable shifts, with e-books gaining significant traction.

In 2023, global e-book revenues reached approximately $13.72 billion, marking a steady annual growth rate of 3.52% since 2017. Projections suggest this figure will rise to $15.29 billion by 2027, accounting for over 17% of global book sales.

Despite this growth, printed books continue to dominate the market. In 2023, print book revenues stood at over $64.35 billion, with a modest annual growth rate of 1.08% projected through 2027 . In the United States, print books outsell e-books by a ratio of 4 to 1.

Several factors contribute to the rising popularity of e-books:

  1. Portability: E-books allow readers to carry an entire library on a single device, making reading on-the-go convenient.
  2. Cost-Effectiveness: Generally, e-books are priced lower than their print counterparts, offering savings to avid readers.
  3. Instant Access: With e-books, readers can purchase and begin reading instantly, eliminating the wait times associated with shipping or visiting a bookstore..

While e-books offer these advantages, many readers still cherish the tactile experience of physical books. The coexistence of both formats caters to diverse preferences, ensuring that literature remains accessible and enjoyable for all.
