So you have your first image ready to lead your next story or post. Nice. What about image two and three? Visuals break up dense text, draw the eye, and clarify complex ideas. But there’s a formula to doing it right.
The common rule is: one image for every 300 words. That means a 900-word post should include at least three. The first should appear near the top—ideally above the fold—to immediately engage the reader. It sets the tone and invites scrolling. A second should support a key concept, positioned midway through the text. This breaks visual monotony and reinforces the narrative. A third image, placed just before the conclusion, can summarise or symbolise your final point.
Too many images can clutter the layout, dilute meaning, and slow load times. Too few makes the post feel dry. Each visual should serve a purpose—explain, emphasise, or evoke.
Infographics are ideal for data-heavy posts. Diagrams and illustrations simplify processes. Photos work best in personal, lifestyle, or travel blogs. Alt-text is a must for SEO.
Consistency is key. Keep image widths standard, use the same border styles, and avoid mixed aspect ratios. When done right, visuals enhance not just the aesthetics of a post but also its clarity, tone, and shareability.
