Blank Page Writes Itself

It started with a blank page. Writers fear that awful beast. Stare at it. Argue with it. Walk away from it.

Not me. Here is opportunity.

This writer sat down, ready to create something brilliant with my blank page. One thing led to another, about how hard it is to start. About starting writing by beginning with a blank page.

Before long, a strange thing happened. The page wasn’t blank anymore. It was full of words about not knowing what words to write on a blank page. And somehow, that counted as writing. It became a post about nothing. Just a rambling spiral of writerly confusion masquerading as content.

By the end, the writer wasn’t sure what they’d made. But the blank page wasn’t blank anymore.

So next time you’re stuck, just write about being stuck. Apparently, that works. Or at least fills the page.

And that’s something (that amounts to almost nothing).
