
The road hummed beneath the tyres like a lullaby, smoothing the chaos of what had just occurred. Sex had settled him—my inner Beast. Temporarily. The drive home gave me space to reflect on what really happened inside the Kingdom of Nina.
She moaned. She smiled. She climaxed. She called it pleasure.
But I called it something else.
It wasn’t about sex anymore. It never was. It was about power—dismantling her inch by inch until the man who was ignored, rejected, denied, could stand tall again. I didn’t want to feel connected to her. I wanted to feel victorious over her.
And I did.
Each conquest should’ve brought peace. It didn’t. Nina, despite her willingness, remained unclaimed. She was too giving, too eager—like a prize already awarded. There’s no glory in war when the other side surrenders before the first blow. My satisfaction wasn’t in the orgasm. It was in the taking. The force of it.
As I returned home to Sam, she barely noticed. Her nose buried in papers, her mind far from me. I coughed. She glanced up. “How was your class?”
The class. Right.
I walked past her, dragging Nina’s scent behind me. A ghost trailing the living.
