The Power of Words: Why Less Images Enhance Blogging

As a writer, I’ve always believed that less is more—especially regarding images in a blog post. That might sound counterintuitive in a world where content is becoming more visual by the day. But hear me out.

Words are my currency. They shape thought, create mood, and deliver meaning in a way pictures can’t quite replicate. When I write a blog post—especially one about writing itself—I want the focus to stay on the writing. The ideas. The structure. The flow. If a post is packed with images, doesn’t that dilute the power of the words? Distract from what really matters?

I’ve seen other author-bloggers do the opposite. Their pages are filled with photo after photo—some relevant, others not. Sometimes the text is sandwiched between giant visuals, pushing the words into the background. The experience feels less like reading a post and more like scrolling through an art gallery. It’s pretty, sure. But am I here to read or browse?

Personally, I use a single image at the beginning—something to draw the eye, tease the tone, or provoke curiosity. After that, if I include anything more, it’s only if it actively supports or enhances the narrative—a chart, a quote graphic, maybe a mood photo, if it deepens the emotion. Otherwise, I let the words carry the weight.

That’s just my style, though. I get that some readers love a visually rich post. Maybe it helps them stay engaged. Maybe it breaks the text into manageable chunks. I can respect that.

But for me? I still lean on the power of the pen.

So what do you think? Are multiple images better? Do they help you stay interested—or do they just get in the way? -Michael
