Cause and effect. We all know it, right? One action creates another, and so on. But in real life—and fiction—it’s rarely that simple. Every choice we make, or don’t make, triggers something. A ripple. A shift. A consequence. Some are tiny. Others are tidal.
In SEETHINGS, I played hard with this arc. It wasn’t just about someone doing something wrong—it was about someone not doing something right. That silence became a scream. That hesitation opened a door. A simple decision—a missed conversation, an ignored truth, a suppressed urge—set off a series of irreversible events. Each character moved forward, believing they were in control. They weren’t. Their choices had already started something they couldn’t stop.
I wanted readers to feel that tension, the mounting pressure of inevitability. That gut-churning sensation where you know something bad is coming, but you can’t see it just yet. The thrill is in watching the dominoes fall—slowly at first, then fast, chaotic, and devastating.
Cause and effect don’t just drive the story. It is the story. And it mirrors our lives, too. Everything we do matters. Even the things we don’t. So, ask yourself this: What did you not do today that might change everything tomorrow?
Let the tension begin.
