Tears In A Thunderstorm? Sadness Doesn’t Stand a Chance

How can you tell if someone’s crying in the rain? Would we come to know their pain?

I’m suffering and have done so for so long; I don’t know what living is like anymore. Things aren’t meant to be this way. I’m sure of it.

I’ve been drowning in confusion and despair. Why can’t I die and finish this awful, torturous process once and for all?

You and I are so wrong for each other. We hurt. We’re always hurting. We hurt each other too much.

Our relationship is going nowhere. This thing we have has become a painful existence for me—for you. I’m sure of that too.

I can’t breathe. I cry, but rain hides all my hurt.

I’m gasping.

Dying is the only thing that hasn’t been tried yet.

It can’t be all that bad. How can it be worse? Death sounds like a sensible alternative. No human should be allowed to live and endure such torture for until death do us part. It’s not meant to be like that.

Look over there. The storm is coming. See it glowing in the sky? You can hear the rain band moving closer. It’ll catch up with us soon. Guaranteed.

Nothing I do ever goes to plan. Nothing I say makes a difference.

We work for this and that, but each step I take to satisfy you comes at a price. I accept less to keep the peace. I sacrifice a little more each time. I’ve got nothing left to give. This has got to stop.

I know that life is supposed to throw us curveballs, but when do they stop being thrown? I suffer and put on a false smile for friends and family.

That storm now has its fury above us. It’s raining more. Water is starting to pool in your eye sockets.

Crying is pointless.

See? Your tears are lost too. You’re sad, but how would anyone know?

And stop screaming. No one is out here. They can’t hear you. Thunder and rain are louder.

To test my theory, one of us must leave this world. Just close your eyes and let go.

This time, I’ll play the damaged survivor.

You get to play the perfect victim.

Goodbye.
