A reader says my fiction is too disturbing to read and needs to be withdrawn! WTF? OFFS! No one said it was another Harry Potter! You’re selecting books from the wrong genre, Virginia!
As an author, it’s my responsibility to categorise my novels properly. It’s then up to readers to use that information to determine if what they are about to read will suit them. I give plenty of warnings on my site. Even more information is provided on Goodreads and the book’s synopsis. There’s no way a reader can’t know the deal before downloading or reading it. If they don’t use those clues, then all bets are off!
Perhaps you have another agenda at hand, Virginia D. In any case, storytelling isn’t all unicorns, Christian-stylised narratives, or fairytales loaded with happy-ever-after cliches. Most adults are aware of this shortly after they stop being children. The bogeyman is out there. Sometimes, evil wins the day.
Deal with it. Alternatively, I suggest you select your next book from the YA or children’s shelves.
