If you can pull yourself away from the Lyrca element of social media, there’s a soft-sell online advertising that authors of fiction can use for their work.
It’s called Instagram.
The soft-sell approach is just as important for online promotions as the hard-hitting direct ones. I’ve found that new followers will come from every corner of this world. Instagramming has the power and fits the bill!
Everyone has something to sell—and there’s too much noise—too many influencers and too much nonsense going on. They want us to take seriously.
Please!
Every single day, there are buy-this-buy-that online bombardments from white-toothed, lycra-clad influencers who have little to offer but offer their clean, straight teeth and tight-fitting credentials.
This highly fertile-looking canvas appeals to many folks, but not everyone is distracted by the shiny. There are those of us who see beyond that and are drawn to realism.
I’m not tight.
I don’t own lycra.
I’m the wrong gender (and age) for goodness ‘ sake.
I’m not trying to influence. I use Instagram to post snippets of my life.
I don’t demand anything from Instas (that’s what the kids say, right?). Sometimes, it’s about what I’m doing in the moment. Mostly, it’s mundane stuff.
I once found a tiny Luke Skywalker doll in my garden, and that became a story. It’s not much, but plastic Luke was part of social media.
Lately, I’ve been pulling shots from my trip across South Australia. Lake Eyre was full of water, and that’s rare. Water filling an ancient salt lake doesn’t rate much on Instagram, but it does to me.
Colourful shots attract most interest… and if the images are right, plenty of people pay attention to them!
Popping some Insta-code on this page lets an up-to-date feed of those Instagram pics show up here. Now that it’s set up on the LATEST page too, it takes no effort.
I photograph something, post it to Insta, and it automatically appears there (and here).
Visitors get a peek into this author’s life as it happens.
