Challenges are inevitable, but how we respond defines our journey—like trees in a storm, bending when the winds of change blow can be the key to survival. Trees offer a powerful metaphor for resilience, adaptability, and growth, showing us how to navigate obstacles while maintaining our integrity.
When faced with strong winds, trees sway rather than resist, distributing pressure across their structure to avoid breaking. Meanwhile, their roots dig deep, spreading wide to anchor them in place. These roots navigate around rocks, pipes, and other obstacles, finding nutrients even in the smallest cracks. Trees thrive by embracing flexibility and seeking opportunity even in adversity.

Consider grey wolves, which faced dwindling habitats and prey due to human expansion. Rather than collapse, they adapted their diet, hunting patterns, and pack behaviours. Some populations even thrived in unexpected environments. This adaptability ensured their survival while maintaining their critical role in ecosystems.
The lessons are clear for people: be flexible, seek new pathways when blocked, and hold firm to your core values—your roots. Bending allows you to endure and eventually thrive when careers, relationships, or circumstances shift. However, bending too often, too far, or for too long can lead to irreparable harm. Overcommitting or ignoring your limits may sap your strength, leaving you fragile and breakable.
I did that. I broke. I was damaged.
The repair started the day I finished writing my book.
