Why Does Life Have to be So Damn Hard?

Every day, we fight to keep our lives in order and on track. It’s a relentless war in exchange for little peace.

We battle for space on crowded roads, edge for position in supermarket aisles, scan for bargains, haggle for better pay, and grumble about rising taxes. We argue for more time, more understanding, more respect—from colleagues, neighbours, spouses, and sometimes even our children. It’s an ongoing pursuit of balance, and though the goal is peace, the process feels anything but peaceful.

Even love, which should be a sanctuary, isn’t immune. We fight to be heard, to be seen, to matter. We’re told it’s all part of building a meaningful life—but who decided struggle must be its foundation?

The modern world is noisy. Demands are many, expectations are high. And though we adapt, bend, and endure, a quiet question lingers: When does the fight end?

Maybe it doesn’t. Real peace may not be the absence of struggle, but the choice of where to place our energy. Perhaps the answer lies in choosing our battles carefully, learning when to stand firm and when to let go.

Because if everything is a fight, we risk losing what makes the struggle worth it—our joy, our connection, and that ever-fragile sense of inner calm we crave.
