The Evolution of Entertainment: From Story Telling to Story Streaming

Entertainment has come a long way since the earliest days of human connection. It began with simple storytelling and music—one person sharing an adventure, a myth, a beat, or a lesson, while others gathered around to listen, captivated by the rhythm and imagination of it all.

As time passed, stories were written down. Books allowed storytelling to travel far beyond the reach of a single voice. Readers no longer had to be in the storyteller’s presence—they could carry the story anywhere. Music followed a similar path. With the invention of recording and radio, millions could hear a song, far from the musician’s original performance.

Today, entertainment is everywhere and in many forms—streaming, podcasts, eBooks, live feeds, video platforms, and social media. Storytelling and music are still central to human life, but how we experience them has transformed.

Yet one thing hasn’t changed: we still love a good story and find joy in music, especially when it’s live and shared with others. They are the beating heart of human recreation.

But with such widespread access, I often ask: “How do storytellers and musicians earn a living in this changing world?” The platforms may have expanded, but the challenge of monetisation has grown. As audiences demand free and instant access, creators must find new ways to be heard—and paid.

Perhaps the next entertainment chapter will be about value, not just volume.
