Making Sugar Coated Peanuts!

Margo asks: ‘What would you like for this coming weekend?’

Michael: ‘What about Lemon Meringue Pie and Sugar Coated Peanuts?’

Margo: ‘Sugar-coated peanuts. Easy. Done.’

Michael: ‘And the Lemon Meringue Pie?’

Margo: ‘Sugar-coated peanuts it is.’

I guess the pie will have to wait.

Nuts are fine.

I’m easy to please. Mother always had sugar peanuts around our home at Christmas time. I thought it’d be nice to revisit the past with some of those. All it takes is sugar and water (50% of each), a bit of colouring and… raw peanuts!

The idea is to get the sugar dissolved into the water so the two become one. Eventually, the water boils away and returns the sugar to its crystallized state (with colour), attaching to the nuts like dried glue.

Margo: ‘Grab your camera. I think you’ll want to video this. It all happens fast. Quick!’
Michael runs for the camera: ‘How long? What will happen?’

Ten minutes later….

Michael: ‘Are you sure something’s gonna happen? I’ve stopped videoing.’
Margo: ‘Don’t stop. It’s about to happen!’

Boom!

And that’s how it’s done. It takes longer to clean the pan than to turn peanuts into delicious candy coated sweets. Yum. I hope you enjoyed today’s brief post.
