I love jeans. In fact, if I had to choose just one item of clothing to wear for the rest of my life, it would be them. They’re the most versatile thing I own.
Dress them up with a blazer and polished shoes, and I’m ready for a formal dinner. Dress them down with a T-shirt and sneakers, and I’m off to a barbecue. Jeans are the social chameleons of my wardrobe.
And here’s the real kicker: they don’t need ironing. None. Zero. I can throw them into a corner of my room, leave them crumpled for a week, and when I pull them back on, they’re wrinkle-free. They rise from the pile looking as though they’ve been freshly pressed, even though we both know they haven’t. Try doing that with a pair of dress trousers—you’ll look like you’ve been sleeping in them.
Of course, this magic doesn’t apply to brand-new jeans. Fresh denim is stiff, shiny, and it folds into creases that could cut glass. New jeans squeak when you walk and pinch when you sit. But that’s only temporary. Tenderise them with use, roughness, and a few careless adventures, and they soften beautifully.
In time, jeans mould themselves to your life. They remember your shape, your habits, your stories. And that’s why I’ll never stop wearing them.
