Social Media For Behind-The-Scenes Book Writing Content

I’m not so good at social media. I’m not a wannabe movie star, hip-hop dancer, or asocial influencer. There’s little interesting in book authoring that people need to see on Instagram. I sit at a computer keyboard and write words. That’s all. It’s pretty darn boring.

When I see other authors doing social media, they sit at their keyboards, hold up their latest release to the camera and tell it they have a new release. It’s not that interesting, and then I wonder what they will be posting to Instagram for the other 364 days of the year.

For me, Instagram and bookwriting are worlds apart. Writing isn’t all that photogenic, nor am I, yet Instagram is extremely image-driven. So, I use my IG account to counter my dark fiction. It shows everything I don’t do when I’m writing!

I want to show others that I’m not the monster who writes that dark stuff. There’s another side of me that’s fun and adventurous. Hopefully, Instagram will provide readers with insight into this author’s life. Occasionally, I’ll drop something of a novel promo on there, but, for the most part, it’s just a window to my other (very ordinary but far more photogenic than writing) world.

Odd things that catch my eye will go to IG, too. Our sunset walks will get a look in. Margo appears in front of my lens and has her turn showing us some of her cooking and gardening skills. She’s very good at both, y’know!

There’s Levi, our cat. I have a whole section of images of our red tabby doing what he does best (Usually sleeping). I also keep a hive of bees and have a WIFI camera pointed directly at its entrance.

If I see something colourful during my day, I’ll photograph it and send it to Instagram. I don’t set up the shots. Most of the time, it’s just a journalistic, on-the-fly picture style. Instagram plays no part in it.
