I Absolutely Love My Coastal Lifestyle!

Something just occurred to me. I’ve always lived by an ocean. I’ve relocated several times but the water has never been far away. Once, I even lived on it. I guess that’s because I was born of a water sign.

Yes, this Virgo now lives by it once again. I’m not the sun-kissed type of sun bunny you’d expect living near a beach, I’m more the type who stays in the shade and waits to howl at the moon at night! Nevertheless, it’s a great muse for writing quality dark fiction. (See below)

ABOUT

The little town of Mandurah (Western Australia) is all alone in the world. It’s a beach-side town that has an original and unique name!

Do a search in google maps. There is no other town, city, state, place or name that uses the name Mandurah. It’s perfectly unique! I like that! Usually, towns and cities in Australia got recycled European names given to them. Homesick British wanted to hear a familiar sound pass their lips. Not this time.

Mandurah is a name taken from the Indigenous culture that lived here before white settlement took it over. They named it (phonetically) Mandjar and the Europeans tweaked it to give it its strange third syllable.

Most people who see the word Mandurah for the first time come up with all kinds of interpretations. Some accent the middle syllable or the last. The truth is if you stick to saying Mandjar, you’re far closer to the way it’s really said. Aside from name-origins and wayward pronunciations, Mandurah is a pretty beach-side community with a Mediterranean climate. There are water activities on the beach, the Peel Inlet and the massive The Estuary.

Mandurah’s Canals at Christmas

It still is the favourite holiday destination for those living in the nearby city of Perth and it became a city in its own right not too long ago. Now it’s the second largest in Western Australia!

It became my home in ’14. I like Mandurah.

‘Forman’s writing style is artful, with the protagonist Mitchell’s warped thought processes masterfully exposed. The author has a powerful and vivid command of language and his word pictures are stark and disturbingly real.’
