You know that feeling when a book grabs you by the throat, drags you in, and refuses to let go? Not gently. Not politely. I’m talking about the kind of story that shakes you, shreds you, and leaves you gasping on the floor, wondering what just happened to your insides. That’s the energy behind the image above — a skeletal, wide-eyed reader clutching a book that quite literally tore his guts out.
It’s funny, sure. But it’s also a perfect metaphor for the kind of reading experience I’ve always aimed for with SEETHINGS.
Some stories are meant to be comforting. Mine isn’t. SEETHINGS wants to crawl under your skin, unsettle you, whisper in your ear while you read alone at night. It’s a psychological thriller that doesn’t just “entertain” — it cuts deeper, tugging at the instincts we pretend we don’t have. The characters don’t offer easy answers. They don’t behave nicely. They certainly don’t obey genre clichés. They exist in that blurry space where morality dissolves, and readers begin questioning their own impulses. That’s where the tension lives.
And that’s why the zombie image works so well. Here’s a creature who loved a book so much that he held onto it even as it hollowed him out. Isn’t that the strange relationship we have with dark fiction? We willingly step into the shadows, knowing that something inside us might not come back the same.
SEETHINGS was written with that intention. Mitchell’s fractured perspective, Samantha’s quiet unravelling, Felicity’s dangerously alluring presence — each character peels back another layer of civility and exposes something raw. Something instinctual. Something we’d rather not acknowledge in daylight. The violence in SEETHINGS isn’t just physical. It’s emotional, psychological, and relational. It’s the violence of secrets and longing and the human need to be seen — even when that truth is ugly.
Readers have told me SEETHINGS “got under their skin,” “haunted them,” or “ripped them apart in the best possible way.” So yes — if my book leaves you a little hollowed out, a little breathless, or a little shocked at your own reaction, then mission accomplished.
Just like the zombie in the library, you may lose a few metaphorical organs along the way.
