I’d like to welcome you to my pit of evil happenstance. This is where innocent people are lured away from the light and taken into the dark recesses of a psychopathic dungeon. May your stay be deadly.
Of course, no one is totally innocent. Even the most honest, hard-working of souls will find something to feel guilty about. They fear procrastinating too much, applying too little effort or wasting time and golden opportunities when they arise. They fear their God won’t be happy if they were to miss His important signs.
Guilt is right where you find it.
I’m guilty.
The difference is I don’t try and hide it from myself. I’m guilty and I’m proud. Instead of denying who I am, I explore my peculiar, death-focused obsessions every time I descend into the murkiness of my thoughts.
Y’know, this pit in which I dwell is actually part of a neurosis labyrinth. It is a quiet corner, located far away from the prying eyes of the do-gooders, the politically correct and those who tch-tch at everything they see and hear in the media. I apply a few sadistic keystrokes, and suddenly they are here with me, bound to my dungeon’s walls. Stripped of their dignity and most of their clothes, I probe their flesh with shiny, metal objects and torment their minds with vile threats. No one gets out alive. No one outside this pit gets to hear the delicious screams that are made on the inside.
There’s no romance. No weddings. No everlasting love. Warm and fuzzy hero righteousness is completely banned. I provide no clichés. My happy-ever-after is to watch victims plead for mercy and then watch them die. This version of a HEA is a refreshing change. It’s about time the literary landscape changed, right?
Helpless victims aside, churning out dark fiction from a mind dungeon comes with the same problems other authors have to deal with. We can write about murder all we like, but we still need a good reason for someone to die and include a special kind of electricity in the text to make the reader stay with the page. And then there’s the marketing, advertising and finding our reading market. Self-publishing isn’t an easy road.
Somewhere between the creation of a phenomenal story and a reader’s inevitable enjoyment of it is the editing process. It’s the single largest and most challenging part of any writing project. Watch the video below to meet me and see where the writing comes together.
